I’m the artist behind Shaka Soul, and everything you see here was born from my deep love for my home island and the joy I find in creating vibrant, heartfelt art. I’ve always been drawn to bold colors, playful designs, and meaningful moments—and it’s been such a gift to discover that others connect with my art too. What started as a personal outlet has grown into something I truly treasure: a way to build community, share a little aloha, and stay rooted in what matters most—authenticity, connection, and having a little fun along the way. Mahalo for being part of the journey!
I grew up on the Big Island of Hawai‘i, where my love for art began with tie-dye, glass flamework, and sculpting tiny creations by hand. Those early creative outlets shaped how much I value sharing my art with others and encouraging artists of all ages to create, create, create—and love the process. Whether working as a school librarian, leading a youth group, or just making art with kids, I’m always finding joy in helping others fall in love with being silly, fun, and wildly creative.
The name Shaka Soul comes from my deep love for both Hawai‘i and Deaf culture. I’ve always been drawn to the Shaka—not just for what it represents in Hawai‘i, but for its power to communicate without words. As someone passionate about sign language and inclusion, the Shaka feels like a beautiful bridge between two worlds I love. Its history in Hawai‘i is full of stories rooted in connection, community, and aloha—even when the exact origin is unclear. To me, the Shaka is a reminder that we all have the ability to reach out, include, and connect. That’s what I hope my art does too—sparks joy, brings people together, and reflects the heart of where I’m from and what I care most about.
